Day 9

Have to assemble early as we have a visit to the Wugang Steel and Iron factory. Thus, we had to wake up very early in the morning to avoid fines for being late. We were supposed to gather at the classroom block to collect our safety helmets at one of the classroom. After that, board the bus together with students from ECE. The bus journey took us about half an hour. When we arrived at the destination, we were given instructions. We were also being told of the history of the company as well as how it evolves over the years. The factory started it production in the year 1976 and since then, has become one of the most prestigious companies in China. Inside the factory, we witnessed the making of sheets of steel. The entire process only takes about one minute from the start to the end. The steel is heated up to a very high temperature to soften so that it can be flatten to long strips. Rollers are used to flatten the steel with the constant flow of cold water to cool the steel in the process. Spoilt metals will be sold back to the suppliers. Return back to the school at around 12pm. Bought Pala Burger for lunch before returning to our rooms as we still have IS lesson in the afternoon. Was late for the class, thus have to pay for the fines of 15RMB per room. We were given a brief overview on China such as the history, economy and the political system.

My Reflection

China industrial estate is no difference from Singapore. In fact, it is similar to our Jurong Island except that it is of a larger scale. The visit to the steel factory make me realized China is indeed the world largest production and exporter country, hence making most countries rely and dependent on China for its resources. Therefore, my conclusion is that despite currently standing here in China, I am able to foresee the transformation that China will be undergoing in this decade due to its vast amount of resources for example manpower labour, ores, minerals, etc. Singapore is just one of the many countries who imports from China and I absolutely agree to the experts saying of China overpowering United States of America in just a few years time.
