Day 4

Meet up with the local students in the afternoon as we were all very fatigued after our trip the day before. As the weather for the day was good, we decided to head for 中山公园 where there is an amusement park. The parks do not charge any entrance fees but rather on a per ride basis. The first only ride that I took was the roller coaster. It cost me 25RMB for just the single ride. After spending much of the day there, we went to Jiang Han Lu for buffet dinner at fullerton. The price for the buffet dinner is much cheaper than Singapore costing only 53RMB after a 5RMB discount. There is quite a large variety of food for us to choose from; however I feel that the taste of the food is a bit too strong. We spent a few hours there, before we decided that it is time to head back to the hostel as the day after we are having our first lesson here in Wuhan. We took bus number 588 back to the school campus.

My Reflection

I felt like a king here in Wuhan because I have a special power, and the power is known as the Spending Power. The money that I have, although not too extravagant, I still have the ability to spend freely in their country. Knowing that I just simply have to divide every item by five, I will hence convert those RMB to Singapore dollars. Thus, I am really grateful to those WUST students. They are always keeping a lookout and accommodating on our needs all the time, providing the best service as they could while we are staying at their country. Therefore, they brought us to the Karaoke, arcade, amusement park, buffet and various restaurants on our respective excursions with them. And all these activities involved charges and fees way above their spending margin but they were willing to pay and do so just for the sake of our enjoyment .Unfortunately, those Wuhan students does not share the same King faith, some of them told me that their average daily spending during school days is around 8RMB. Hence, from an average daily spending of around 8RMB, they dug their pockets deeper and spent over 100RMB whenever they are with us. This amount is more than 10 times of their ordinary spending power. Despite being a norm to us for spending 100RMB which is just slightly over twenty Singapore Dollars, there was a huge gap between both sides affordability to certain things. These Wuhan students want to show their invitation and appreciation towards us for coming over to their country by burning a hole in their pockets. And by doing so, they earned themselves the respect from us which we gladly welcome them into the rest of our days in Wuhan.
