Day 30

The meeting time for our sight visit to Hubei Coca Cola factory is 8.30am. Most of were sleeping during the long trip to the factory. Upon our arrival, we were brought to a room and a short video about the history of what impact Coca Cola have on China were shown to us. After that, we were brought to see the production site. However, to our disappointment, the factory was not in production on that day as they were repairing some machines. The final destination there is an exhibition hall for us to take photos as well as admire the exhibits there. After reaching back to the campus, most of us start discussing our projects. After which we went to Jiang Han Lu to do some shopping. We had our dinner at Ajisen before we rush to Wal-mart to buy some snacks for our trip to Dong Hu the next day as lunch will not be provide for that trip.

My Reflection

China Chinese are indeed a bunch of really impatient people. I remembered writing a reflection in one of the earlier post about the chaotic scene displayed by the Chinese during boarding and alighting of bus. And after this incident, I was enlightened by one of the Wuhan university students that the hectic scene which the Chinese acted out was not because of the seats priority factor, but the rushing of time that caused them to behave like that. As those Chinese worked very hard all day long from early morning before sunrise till at night, hence they will want to reach back home or their dormitory as soon as possible to have a good rest. Therefore, unlike Singaporeans who would queue up patiently, the Chinese will actually rush up to the bus as they want the bus to start moving as quickly as it can. This is because the bus driver can only drive off the berth when every passengers are on board the bus, hence without any concerns for their safety, the people would just simply squeeze and stick very closely with one another to provide adequate space for more passengers to have the chance to board the bus as well. This is also mainly due to the fact that each bus intervals is quite long before another bus will arrive to pick the next batch of passengers. As many Chinese live very far away from the urban areas, the bus journey would take longer duration for them and thus, they do not want any unnecessary delay to the travelling time. Through this thorough explanation from the Wuhan students who had stayed in Wuhan for a very long period of time, I can fully understand the feeling of those Chinese and their mentality of just to get home to be reunited with their family members in the shortest time as possible. It seems like I had absorbed more knowledge about China and it is indeed a cross cultural exchange for me
